According to news site Semafor, Microsoft is planning to contribute $10 billion to Open AI
as part of a capital round that would put a $29 billion valuation on the business. According to
reports, Microsoft will receive a 75% cut of Open AI’s income up until it recovers its
investment, at which point it will take a 49% ownership position in the firm. By placing a
wager on Chat GPT, Microsoft may be able to increase its efforts in the Google-dominated
industry of web search.
After the company revealed its Chat GPT platform, a chatbot that can produce thorough
replies in response to basic inputs, Open AI experienced a recent rise in popularity. The
introduction of the chatbot sparked significant debate about how writing would evolve over
the next several years, particularly as the technology is developed. In late November, Open
AI, which was established by Silicon Valley businessman Sam Altman, made its Chat GPT
available to the general public.
A wager on Chat GPT may aid Microsoft in stepping up its online search initiatives, a field
dominated by Google. Although the business’s Bing browser only has a small part of the
worldwide search engine market, it is believed that the transaction would enable the company
to challenge Google’s hegemony by providing more sophisticated search features.
